SINGLE REVIEW: DVNA – Looking Like A Snack

After being first introduced to your vibey playlists and weekend afternoons with the flowing synth delivery of her debut single ‘Girl On The Move’, DVNA is back with another ear-warming track. ‘Looking Like A Snack’ is a mature and warm track that interpolates summer soaked vibes with a neo-soul heart. Citing influences from the likes of Jorja Smith, Daniel Caesar and SZA she creates a song that is the perfect blend of easy listening and memorable. It’s less disco inspired and groove centred than her debut but it takes a whole new turn into maturity and artistic growth. It’s a song that commercial radio will never pick up, but she knows that. It’s a song that stations like Triple J will love and curated playlists from Spotify and Apple Music will heavily feature because it’s got that unique sound and direction that R&B is globally heading towards. It has that distinct flow that will have you floating in a candy covered dream that her aesthetic for this song is heavily focused around. She details an ex love interest who she wants to win back but is also struggling to admit it. It’s so dreamy and lush and is also so relaxing thanks to her smooth harmonies. It’s definitely an easy listening track that has really perfected the vibe she’s set out to create and is again a great reflection of where she’s heading towards as an artist.
