SINGLE REVIEW: Shakira – Try Everything

Opening like a sequel to “Wake Waka” Shakira’s new single for the film “Zootopia” is a tad predictable. “Try Everything” is a cookie cutter pop track that has her recreating elements of her previous hit singles while hiding her sexuality and dumbing down her appeal. It jumps on the bandwagon of euphoric pop songs with pure pop hooks that are aimed to inspire. “Bird’s don’t just fly, they fall down and get up”. The chorus succeeds at being catchy and after a few listens of being unimpressed I slowly allowed myself to start bopping along. For a Disney movie this song makes a lot of sense but I just wish we had more of Shakira’s personality in this song and not a generic pop song that could have been performed by anyone and had the exact same impact.
