Ring the alarm because it’s officially Beyonce season! It’s been six years since our mutually agreed upon queen of the world released her highly acclaimed sixth studio album ‘Lemonade’, and we’ve been patiently waiting for her to serve us some fresh new music. In-between that period she released a collaborative album with husband Jay-Z, and also curated the soundtrack for the live-action retelling of The Lion King.
With the announcement that her seventh studio album ‘Renaissance’ will be released on July 29, she has returned with the first mammoth single that will have you instantly swept away. ‘BREAK MY SOUL’ is a house anthem that takes Beyonce back to the club, and will have listeners dancing almost immediately when that undeniable beat comes in.
The four and a half minute track is a journey from start to finish. From the Big Freedia ‘Explode’ sample that is weaved throughout the track, to the classic house beat from Robin S.’s 1990 hit ‘Show Me Love’, to her dominative half spoken/half rap flow in the second verse, there is something constantly happening. With each listen it continually grows on you, and increasingly gets more and more stuck in your head.
Beyonce is a queen, and she’s getting us up on our feet and dancing as she enters this new era, and we couldn’t be more ready.
