SINGLE REVIEW: Thelma Plum – Backseat Of My Mind

It’s been three years in-between releases for Thelma Plum, but the Gamilaraay singer-songwriter has finally returned with a taste of her forthcoming sophomore studio album with the dreamy-pop stylings of ‘Backseat Of My Mind’.

Reminiscing on her time spent on the road touring, this song is all about looking towards the future. It’s those moments spent looking out of the window reminiscing on the past, and thinking about where she wants to be. “Doesn’t matter how long it takes, but I know I’ll get there soon. I’ve been looking the wrong way, at the other side of the moon” she sings during the opening moments of the song. She then steers into the chorus and proclaims “I’m driving forward to a beautiful place I know. And I’ve been crying as I look in the rearview mirror”.

With a keys and guitar driven production, she builds this soundscape that immediately transports you to your favourite road trip. It’s the sort of song you want to hear as your hair hits the wind, and with the volume at full blast.

Premiering this song along with five (!!) other unreleased tracks on her ‘Homecoming Queen Tour’ last year, she showed fans where this new chapter in her musical journey is heading, and it’s a very exciting one indeed.
