SINGLE REVIEW: Arlo Parks – Softly

Arlo Parks had breakthrough year in 2021 which saw her becoming one of the most praised rising British singer-songwriter’s. Her debut album ‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’ received global acclaim and received two Grammy nominations, while also winning her a BRIT Award for Best New Artist. Ahead of her world tour, which will see her reaching Australia in August, she has dropped a beautifully penned standalone track which will have you immediately obsessed.

‘Softly’ is Arlo Parks’ most pop directed release yet. While still holding onto her soulful foundations, this track interpolates a distinctive hook with her smooth vocal tone. She has this signature calmness that radiates through every release, and this single is no different. All that’s been added is an ear-worm hook and pop approach to production which has elevated her poetic senseability.

Exploring the emotions surrounding a relationship fizzling out, she beautifully articulates the desperate nature of holding onto that person for dear life. You may know that time is running out, and that maybe they weren’t the one for you, but you can’t help but hold on as you delay the inevitable goodbye. “Break it to me softly, I don’t want no one else” she confesses.

‘Softly’ is an absolutely stunning track by an absolutely stunning artist who is going to continue captivating you in 2022.
