Following the release of her debut album ‘Hey u x’ in 2020, BENEE has a brand new EP for you that’s ready to be soaked in with its ultimate summer aesthetic. ‘LYCHEE’ is slated for a March 4 release which comes just in time for her 2022 World Tour which is scheduled to kick off in Hobart on March 18.
Lead single ‘Doesn’t Matter’ laid down some very chilled foundations with a melodic delivery that explored dealing with her mental health struggles. Contrasting a playful approach on the follow-up single ‘Beach Boy’, the New Zealand singer-songwriter taps into a cheeky side that has always been quite prominent through her songwriting in the past. Created in pure fantasy, this song establishes that she is absolutely fine being single and being by herself, but acknowledges that sometimes she just wants a little affection. It’s a very human thing to want and need, and it doesn’t need to be anything serious to be able to give you that serotonin. “Beach boy, be my bitch babe. If it’s only for a day, take me out, but I won’t stay” she breezily sings during the euphoric-laden hook.
Teaming up with Greg Kurstin to create the LA inspired and sun-soaked aesthetic, there is an infectious lightness that pulsates through the 3 minute duration. Beginning with gentle guitar, they add a tropical inspired beat that immediately has you ready to spin around outside like you’re in some euphoric montage.
