SINGLE REVIEW: GAYLE feat. Royal & The Serpent – abcdefu

With an exciting trajectory that has absolutely skyrocketed in the past 6 months thanks to the breakthrough success of ‘abcdefu’, GAYLE has been showing listeners all of the different sides to her artistry through releasing different versions of the viral single. Following the angrier, chill and demo versions of the song, the Nashville based singer-songwriter has finally teamed up with a fellow must-watch act for a collaborative take.

‘abcdefu’ featuring Royal & The Serpent is an angsty and confident version of the track that will have you wanting to send it to your ex and make sure they know exactly how you feel about them. It’s also the only text message we will allow you to send to your ex. “Fuck you and your mom and your sister and your job, and your broke-ass car, and that shit you call art. Fuck you and your friends that I’ll never see again. Everybody but your dog, you can all fuck off” they sing on the euphorically angsty and powerful hook. It’s all about sticking it to them, and finding the power to known your worth and stand up for yourself. But most importantly, it’s also about letting their dog know that it’s not about them and that you still love and miss them.

Royal & The Serpent brings her own spin on the second verse with her hot “fuck you” takes along with her signature vocal flair. “RIP to me, you’re dead” is a line that I will hold onto for a very long time, and made me giggle as I imagined the person I would sing it too.

The song still has its strong and empowering angsty energy with its guitar heavy production that pulsates with ease. At a duration of just under 3 minutes you will find yourself hitting replay and going the fuck off in the bedroom, shower or the middle of the street.
