SINGLE REVIEW: Little Mix – Between Us

I will forever be a sucker for a classic girl-group moment, and ahead of their greatest hits compilation ‘Between Us’ dropping next week Little Mix have a dropped one of their finest mid-tempo pop ballads yet.

Title track ‘Between Us’ is a poignant return to their roots. It’s all about friendship, and the sisterhood love that has radiated throughout their journey since their humble beginnings on The X Factor UK in 2011. It’s a homage to every little moment that has made them into the women they are as individuals, as well as the confident and empowering group they are today. Adding little lyrical references to their songs ‘Wings’, ‘Power’, ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘Sweet Melody’, the song feels like a giant easter egg hunt to piece together their incredible journey. But at the heart of it is a beautiful message of love and support for each other as they sing in the final moments of the song; “When the curtains close and all of the lights go down. It’s safe to say I’ll stay, I will always stick around”.

Sonically sitting somewhere between their ‘Glory Days’ deep cut ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and the Spice Girls fan favourite ‘Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)’, they haven’t strayed too far from their pop roots by giving fans this nostalgic moment of reflection. It feels important, and does feel like the perfect centre-piece to this 10 year anniversary.
