SINGLE REVIEW: Charli XCX feat. Christine And The Queens & Caroline Polachek – New Shapes

Okay sound the alarms because Charli XCX has officially announced that her fifth studio album ‘Crash’ will be released on March 18. Following the release of the nostalgic leaning lead single ‘Good Ones’ in September, the UK raised and now Los Angeles based singer-songwriter has dropped the follow up anthem that will have you ready to immediately hit a dance floor.

Heavily saturated in an organic 80’s aesthetic, ‘New Shapes’ hears her teaming up with Christine And The Queens and Caroline Polachek. Made to be a bit of a slow burner like the now classic ‘Gone’, she really focuses on building this unique soundscape for the song to live within. With little synth bursts in the chorus layered with nostalgic 80’s production that feels like it’s been taken from a 2021 re-envisioned Grace Jones track, you will find yourself really immersed within it.

Naturally ‘New Shapes’ is a very different song to ‘Good Ones’. And while it may not be catering towards the pop radio market of its predecessor, it’s one for her fans who genuinely get excited by her continual push for experimentation. It will grow on you with each listen, and soon you will be calling this song too, a Charli classic.
