Aly & AJ are really not holding back from delivering us a whole lot of new music. Following the release of their fourth studio album ‘a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun’ earlier this year, the dynamic sister duo are backing it up with a packed deluxe edition dropping in February 2022. With a range of new songs including recent single ‘Get Over Here’, they’ve added another anthemic and relatable single to tie you over until February.
‘Am I Alright’ is genuinely one of their most infectious releases from this new project. Oozing a earworm hook that will get stuck in your head immediately, they hold onto their organic guitar and drum roots which this record is centred around. There is a naturally upbeat feeling that pulsates through the production which perfectly contrasts with the heavy lyrical unravelling.
Exploring the emptiness of depression, they find themselves admitting that they’re not okay and highlighting that everything they try just doesn’t seem to work. “I’m never happy when it rains in LA. And when it’s sunny, I feel the same” they sing during the pre-chorus before questioning “Am I alright?” in the refrain.
This is a very timely song that a lot of people will find comfort in. It’s honest, catchy and most importantly holds onto a glimpse of hope.
