George Alice is a name that by now you should be well and truly acquainted with. The 2019 triple j Unearthed High winner has excitingly delivered a trio of memorable pop tracks with the breakthrough smash hit ‘Circles’, and the experimental follow ups ‘Stuck In A Bubble’ and ‘Teenager’. Now she’s adding another soon-to-be fan favourite to her discography with ‘Mid Years’. Co-written with Alex Lahey, and Co-written and co-produced with Japanese Wallpaper, this track hears George Alice pushing her sound with a pulsating synth production.
Sometimes all we need is a big hug, or a night out with the ones you love the most when everything else in your life feels a little blurry and un-manageable. While this may not actually mend your broken heart, or have you feeling any better about the noise going on in your life, it is comforting to know that you’re not completely alone. “Gonna raise a glass to all my broken hopes and dreams” she hopefully sing during the opening lines before admitting in the chorus that she is struggling; “Opposites attract and all that crap. Oh wow I’m barely holding on”.
The music video directed by Jack Bielby & Thomas Schaefer is a dark and moody affair contrasted with neon lights to represent a lonely night out. She’s in a state where she’s trying so hard to have a good time with her friends, but her brain is still running in full overdrive.
