SINGLE REVIEW: Hope D – Happy Hangover

Rising singer-songwriter Hope D has had a pretty exciting past two years. With the breakthrough success of her debut single ‘Swim’, the huge placing of #69 in triple J’s Hottest 100 for 2020, the release of her debut EP ‘Cash Only’, and the consequent sold out Australian tour earlier this year, her accolades are deservingly growing.

Kickstarting the next chapter in her success story, the Brisbane based artist has released her anthemic new single ‘Happy Hangover’. Co-written with G-Flip and produced by Aidan Hogg, this track celebrates the nights we go a little too hard and wake up with a blurry vision of memories, a pounding head, a stomach that is continually flipping, and a whole lot of smiles. The nonsensical lyrics are intended to represent the cooked conversations and the trippy mindset you’re in during those moments. It’s all about not taking life too seriously and just living in the moment more as a lot of us get too afraid to completely let go sometimes. “Am I tripping out? Am I seeing double?” she questions during the catchy hook.

The production is full of energy and compliments the anthemic intentions of celebrating these nights out that are important memories in our coming-of-age and early adult years. With G-Flip on drums and backing vocals, she helps Hope lift this song up and deliver a moment of euphoric release that you’ll be excited to experience in the live realm soon.  This is yet again another strong and memorable track in Hope D’s growing discography that cements her as one of the most exciting and promising rising newcomers.
