Chelsea Cutler is excitingly releasing her sophomore album ‘When I Close My Eyes’ on October 15, and it’s shaping up to be quite a diverse and complimentary body of work. Showcasing a distinct growth in her artistry since the release of her debut album ‘How To Be Human’ at the start of 2020, she wants to highlight the beauty of the highs and lows we all experience in life. So much has happened in the world and her personal life since the release of that record, and this new body of work captures that essence.
Her new single ‘Calling All Angels’ is a collaboration with current tour buddy Quinn XCII, and it’s a calming pop track about wishing well to the ones you love. We all go through hardships, and sadly the ones we love can’t always be around us to help us through them. So this song hears them asking for some help from angels in the sky to watch over their loved ones when they can’t be around. “I hope you learn to breathe. I hope you find your peace. Have everything you need around you” she sings during the pre-chorus before singing the refrain “calling all angels”. It’s a really beautiful sentiment that will have you immediately becoming the human version of the simp emoji with tears forming.
The guitar and piano led production is really laid back, and has this light approach which compliments the beautiful nature of the song. It’s a feel good track that feels like a giant warm hug as it’s all about spreading love in a time where it’s so easy to be sucked into the negative thoughts that are weighing so many of us down. As she ushers us into this new chapter, Chelsea Cutler will have you transfixed by her heartfelt storytelling, and I personally cannot wait to experience all the emotional thoughts on this new record.
