SLUMBERJACK are no strangers to the global touring circuit. Their energetic live show has been built on a string of absolute bangers that have taken them to some of the biggest stages and seen them continually impress with their dark and pulsating soundscape. Their debut album ‘Dichotomy’ is slated for release later this year, and following in the footsteps of recent singles ‘Memory’ and ‘Poison’ feat. Sydney Carter the Perth duo are adding another banger to the list.
‘Not For You’ hears them teaming up with Nicole Miller surprisingly for the first ever time for a dark-pop track that perfectly collides their two sounds together. This is one of SLUMBERJACK’s more pop directed releases to date and is one that you can immediately hear finding its footing in their live show. Describing it as their bounciest track yet, the hook really hones that with a production that feels like an electronic spring that won’t stop.
Lyrically Nicole Millar brings a confident reflection on being self aware when you’re putting yourself into a toxic situation. It’s about getting to a point where you can acknowledge that it’s not going to work out the way you both want it to and instead you’re just not meant for them. “Never gonna fit where you want me to. Just like all the others, I’m not for you, no, not for you” she sings during the catchy hook.
‘Not For You’ is one of SLUMBERJACK’s catchiest tracks to date, and will undoubtedly become a favourite on triple j and in their forthcoming live shows.
