LIVE REVIEW: Confidence Man – The Tivoli

Confidence Man want to take you to the party of the year, and as they kicked off their Australian Tour at The Tivoli in Brisbane they really delivered on that promise. After a handful of festival shows, this run of dates marks their proper return to the stage since COVID with a live show that is all about losing yourself in the moment.

With their veiled band members taking to the stage for an instrumental intro, Janet Planet and Sugar Bones finally took the to the stage in matching white outfits for opening track ‘Out Of The Window’. “Brisbane, how you doing?” Janet screamed to the excited sold out crowd who were ready for a night of sweaty dancing and big singalong’s. With their perfected choreography, they glided straight into ‘Does It Make You Feel Good?’ and ‘Better Sit Down Boy’ before they went into the first instrumental interlude of the evening.

After a brief costume change they returned to the stage in matching plaid outfits, and Janet donned a light up bra while they sung ‘Try Your Luck’. Putting on their sunglasses even while they were inside for ‘C.O.O.L Party’, Sugar then sprayed champagne all over the crowd which cemented that it will forever be one of their best and most playful songs.

After another interlude, they came back with another costume change with black being the theme this time around. Recent single ‘First Class Bitch’ offered another playful moment with handclaps and wet hair flips being the means of chaos. ‘Don’t You Know I’m In A Band’ and ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’ wrapped up the show while Sugar crowd-surfed his way around the venue. But with the crowd chanting for more they returned to the stage exclaiming “Alright you bastards” before properly closing the show with ‘Bubblegum’.

Confidence Man have always been a group that knows how to deliver a ridiculously fun live show, and this tour captures that in their most polished form yet. They’re a world class act who have created their own world of chaos to reign, and it’s so fun to watch.
