SINGLE REVIEW: MARINA – Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land

MARINA is really serving some ‘Electra Heart’ energy through the punchy new singles from her forthcoming fifth studio album ‘Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land’ which is slated for a June 11 release. ‘Man’s World’ and ‘Purge The Poison’ were both liberating tracks about equality with their important messages assertively in your face. And now the third single and title track ‘Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land’ is continuing that sentiment.

“You don’t have to be like everybody else. You don’t have to fit into the norm. You are not here to conform” she boldly asserts in the catchy hook. Encouraging listeners to stand up for their rights, and for what they believe in, this song is all about unity. It’s also about not bowing out of a fight when your heart is completely invested. “Our ancestors had to fight to survive, just so we could have a chance of a life. We’re not here so we can blow it all. We could bear witness to the rise and the fall” she sings during the opening moments of the song.

Sonically steering towards that bold pop sound behind ‘Electra Heart’ she gives you pulsating synths, big hooks and a whole lot of 80’s references. It’s a song that feels big in every way possible, and is an absolute anthem in its own right.

‘Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land’ is shaping up to be a music listen album, and one that may just make up for the dismal release that was ‘Froot’.
