SINGLE REVIEW: Ngaiire – Closer

It’s been five years in-between albums for Ngaiire, and she’s finally ready to unveil a new body of work with the release of her poignantly titled third studio album ‘3’ on August 27. To coincide with the announcement, the Sydney based and Papua New Guinea born singer-songwriter has dropped  the pulsating ‘Closer’.

The lush track is a celebration of the secret feelings we have for someone that are lingered by guilt. Inspired by growing up in post-colonial Papua New Guinea she commentates on how she observed and understood love, sex and dating. “I just want to kiss you. Every second miss you. Come here get closer” she sings before proclaiming “Don’t come here unless you love me like I do”.

With an 80’s inspired sonic, the pulsating nature of the track compliments the wholesome vibe it inhabits. It has this ethereal energy to it that will have you immediately soaked up in the whole feeling and immediately wanting to press replay when it reaches its 3 minute duration. And don’t even get me started on her powerhouse and emotively charged vocal delivery that will have you feeling every word she sings deeply. SO dreamy.
