SINGLE REVIEW: Billie Eilish – Your Power

Billie Eilish is ready to continue her success story with her highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Happier Than Ever’ which will be released on July 30. The singer-songwriter has always unravelled a raw vulnerability through her music and this record is promising to be no different following the release of lead singles ‘my future’ and ‘Therefore I Am’. Joining them is ‘Your Power’ which may just be one of her most explicitly vulnerable tracks yet.

Reflecting on people mis-using their power, she opens up about the times when she has fallen victim to this power play. It’s a narrative that nearly everyone can relate to, and it’s a song that is going to feel like therapy for many. “How dare you? And how could you? Will you only feel bad when they find out? If you could take it all back, would you?” she questions before honestly singing “Try not to abuse your power. I know we didn’t choose to change. You might not wanna lose your power, but having it’s so strange”.

The emotionally heavy song is complimented by a very minimalistic guitar production that amplifies the intensity of the lyrics. Her pure and vulnerable vocals are hauntingly beautiful and immediately transport you to that place of hurt.

‘Your Power’ is a raw and beautiful introduction to the world of ‘Happier Than Ever’, and continues the candid introspection that her music has always honed.
