As we head into Mardi Gras season in Australia, STEPS have just dropped an iconic new single with Michelle Visage that will have you ready to immediately hit the dance floor. Taken from their sixth studio album ‘What The Future Holds’, they’ve remixed ‘Heartbreak In This City’ for the official single release with the guest vocals of Rupaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage. This crossover is a match-made in gay heaven, and you’ll be getting your life upon the very first listen.
Visage’s vocals intertwine so smoothly within the group, that upon a first listen you may not even notice the difference from the original track. But if you’re a Drag Race super fan or know her from her time in Seduction and S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. then you will be able to pinpoint her signature vocals immediately. Sharing lead vocals in the verses and middle 8 section, she harmonises with the group and gloriously becomes the unofficial sixth member.
The glittery pop song is a big retrospective moment that takes you right back to the start of the 2000’s when STEPS were dominating the top of the charts. It’s a song that is playful, romantic and one that deserves to be danced to immediately. “So get your mind made up, call me on the telephone. I need your love, kiss my heart and let it glow. You capture me, I can’t explain. You call my name and then my heart stops beating” they sing during the nostalgic hook.
Keeping to the same production and aesthetic as the original album track, this new remix of ‘Heartbreak In This City’ is a camp-as-fuck pop moment that brings Michelle Visage front and centre with the rest of the group.
