Amy Shark is continually kicking goals left, right, and centre, and her new single ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ is another big moment in her career. Not only does the song feature Australian country music legend Keith Urban, but it was also a co-write between her and Ed Sheeran. HUGE.
With a whole discography of vulnerable tracks that explore heartbreak and mental health, a topic that she doesn’t usually open up to in-depth about is her relationship with her husband. So ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ is an insight into their intimacy and their bond that keeps them together so purely. “Yeah, you know love songs ain’t for us. Nothing could explain about the way it hurts so much. But at the same time it’s, perfect nights, it’s open doors, It’s feeling safe, it’s being sure. It’s a deep cut, crazy rush, to feel like us” she sings during the chorus.
With a light production guiding listeners throughout the duration, it sounds like the perfect first dance song that will undeniably get used in a lot of weddings to come. It’s a sound that comes quite naturally to Ed Sheeran, and you can certainly hears his influence shining through. But it’s a welcomed contrast to the sound that we are used to hearing from Amy Shark. It’s big, sweeping, and simply beautiful, and shows listeners a different side to her vulnerability.
With Keith Urban singing on the track with her, their harmonies are ultimately rich, and give the song a warm layering of emotions. This will become a HUGE track for both artists this year, and will be one you won’t be able to avoid over the next couple of months.
