It’s THAT Season Again: Christmas 2020

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas, but there’s something about working in retail in the past that’s ruined the idea of Christmas music for me. There’s only so much of Michael Buble’s Christmas album that one person can take in their life, and my quota is VERY full. So every year I search for some new Christmas music to try settle into the festive spirit, and I think it’s safe to say for all of us that there is a LOT of that needed for 2020.

Delta Goodrem and Meghan Trainor have served up a fresh pop perspective with their respective Christmas albums, while Dolly Parton has given listeners a full country soundscape which will probably be playing at your grandparents on Christmas day. And then you have the sad-xmas vibes from VÉRITÉ, Sasha Sloan and girl in red who have all summed up my 2020 mood quite nicely.

So here are my 2020 Christmas picks for your listening pleasure/cries;

Carly Rae Jepsen – It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries

This song is very accurate. Like, it’s honestly a new Christmas classic thanks to the lyrics; “My boyfriend is a vegan, so they fed him fish. My uncle made it worse by talking politics. I had a few opinions, might have started a fight, well, It’s not Christmas till somebody cries”.

Also spoiler; It’s usually it’s me who cries on Christmas.

Delta Goodrem – Only Santa Knows

Australian pop icon Delta Goodrem surprised dropped an entire Christmas album last month called ‘Only Santa Knows’ which featured the new original song of the same title. This is a really cute and family friendly track that she will perform later this month on her television special.

VÉRITÉ – Blackout Christmas

VÉRITÉ writing a song about being heartbroken, alone and blackout drunk on Christmas is a GIANT mood, and something I’m going to be playing very loud on Christmas day when I get home from my parents house.

Girl In Red – two queens in a king sized bed

Okay, this is a VERY sweet and romantic queer Christmas song that makes me wish I was in love right now . “I don’t have a lot to give but I would give you everything. All my time is yours to spend, let me wrap you in with my skin” she sings during the chorus.

Ava Max – Christmas Without You

Ava Max gives us some classic Christmas vibes on this new original track, and it’s another romantic one that will have your heart swooning. “Wherever you go, you light up the room. I hope that you’ll make it back home soon, cause it won’t feel like Christmas without you” she gushes.

Muki – Happy Ex-mas

“Happy Christmas, you’re my ex now” – YES! That’s how you do it Muki! This song is a savage Christmas break-up song and I am living for it. It’s so original and so quintessentially her.

Meghan Trainor – I Believe In Santa

Christmas with a SICK beat! That’s what happens on Meghan Trainor’s new original track ‘I Believe In Santa’ which is from her appropriately titled christmas album; ‘A Very Trainor Christmas’.

Sasha Sloan – I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Every year Spotify gifts us some exclusive new Christmas Spotify Singles, and this year they enlisted my favourite sad girl, Sasha Sloan, for her original take on ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’. It’s VERY good, and her vocals are so dreamy and suit this song SO well!

JoJo – Have Yourself A Merry Christmas

STOP THE PRESS! JOJO RELEASED A CHRISTMAS ALBUM! Yes, that’s right, and it’s legit amazing, and this cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ proves to you why in just 3 mins.

Dolly Parton feat. Miley Cyrus – Christmas Is

I will never say no to a Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton collaboration, including this wholesome original track.

Mabel – I’ll Be Home For Christmas

I just LOVE Mabel’s voice, and this cover of ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas’ will keep you nice and cosy during Christmas.

3OH!3 – Kissletoe

Let’s be real, I HAD to include this new Christmas song. 3OH!3 have officially made their comeback and this poptastic Christmas song is THE perfect gift that we all didn’t know we needed. CRANK IT UP!
