SINGLE REVIEW: Jakøb – Stuck In My Ways

2020 has been all about growing for Jakøb. As an artist, the Sydney based singer-songwriter has been building his sound into a gradually more organic direction full of live instrumentation. While holding onto his dark RNB roots, he’s lifted the structure and formula into this exciting lane that follows in the footsteps of the likes of Ruel, Rex Orange County, Shawn Mendes and Cody Jon.

‘Stuck In My Ways’ is his third single for the year and follows the acclaimed releases of ‘Selfish’ and ‘Daydream’. Beginning where ‘Daydream’ left off, he dives deep into this fulfilled sun-soaked production that is rhythmically charged with guitars and drums. It has this crooning energy with his vocals smoothly layered on top that immediately captivates your attention and also has you swooning appropriately. The song continually builds with additional production added right up until the gospel choir influenced outro which will become a great singalong moment in his live show.

Inspired by the global lockdown that 2020 has seen the world go into, Jakøb explored learning to enjoy his own company and not worry about what was going around him in the moment. There is a chilled out and laid back attitude that is inserted into the lyrics about feeling lazy which is then complimented by the smooth production. “I swear I lay in bed all day just pretending that I’m away, cause I’m not here today” he sings during the opening moments of the song.

With a sonical energy similar to Ruel, this song will immediately captivate you from the very first listen, and it’s also one of his most engaging releases yet so prepare to have the hook stuck in your head.
