SINGLE REVIEW: Clinton John – Fresh

Nashville based singer-songwriter Clinton John has been introducing himself to listeners throughout 2020 with the slick pop songs’ Honest’ and ‘Cry’, as well as his collaborative PC-pop track ‘Solo’ with Stasney Mav. Offering a glimpse into the different sides of his growing his artistry, he’s just dropped his most exciting and strongest track yet.

‘Fresh’ is a song that could legitimately put Clinton John the map. Inserting a pop confidence that is reminiscent of Isaac Dunbar, Conan Gray and Troye Sivan, this little banger immediately captivates listeners with its ear worm hook and genuine heart. The fusing of the pulsating synths and glowing production is the epitome of “I never want Summer to end, and it never will when you play this song”.

Reflecting on the aftermath of a devastating break-up, he found himself comparing every future love interest to the one he had, which is a totally normal thing to do. We’ve all been there at some point in time, and I’m sure we can all admit that it’s not the healthiest or best thing to do. Trying to keep an open mind, when he actually found himself interested in someone new it caught him by total surprise. And that’s where the sentiment of ‘Fresh’ originates from because it felt super fresh and exhilarating.

“When it’s me and you, damn it feels so fresh” he exclaims as the chorus ignites into this euphoric singalong moment. “Press your cold lips on my neck, smell the cheapie on your breath, I don’t know what’s coming next” he then adds.

This feels like a very pure and authentic pop song that perfectly contrasts vulnerability with a romantic sentiment. It also backs it up for Clinton John with 4/4 bangers in his repertoire, and will be stuck in your head from the very first listen.
