LIVE REVIEW: Hope D – The Outpost

With only three singles currently out in the world and 1.1 million accumulated streams on Spotify alone, Hope D is very much a newcomer on the rise! The Brisbane based singer-songwriter has sold out FIVE headline shows at The Outpost, and the buzz couldn’t be louder for her growing trajectory.

Kicking off these intimate Covid-safe shows, she took to the stage for a solo performance of the unreleased track ‘Candle’ to vulnerably ease the crowd in. With her three piece band then joining her on stage halfway through ‘Miscommunicate’, which she announced will be the new single and will be released in October, she brought the high energy that had you wishing you were in the middle of a sweaty mosh pitt.

With only three songs out, the majority of the set was outlined by unreleased material like ‘Life Sentence’, ‘Cyclone’ and angsty standouts ‘Senseless’ and ‘Into You’. When it came time for her recent single ‘Common Denominator’ the crowd ecstatically sang along to every word and passionately SCREAMED out “hit the fucking, snooze” line which was inevitably always going to be a favourite in her life set. ‘Swim’ also got the big singalong treatment, and closing track ‘Second’ also received quite the fanfare.

Hope D may only have a couple of songs out, but she’s no amateur. Her live show is professionally slick, and her band is ridiculously TIGHT. Her banter in-between songs was quirky and captivating as it allowed you to get to know more about the artist behind this incredibly well write songs.
