SINGLE REVIEW: Alison Wonderland – Bad Things

Following in the footsteps of her critically acclaimed sophomore record ‘Awake’, Australian singer, songwriter and producer Alison Wonderland is ready to launch the beginning of a new chapter as she heads towards her third studio album which his slated for a 2021 release.

Lead single ‘Bad Things’ is a dark and brooding moment that reflects on confronting your demons and dealing with them. For anyone that suffers with anxiety or depression, or have found themselves giving into their dark thoughts during isolation, this song will speak quite heavily.

“Is it worthwhile when you lose half of your heart?” she poignantly asks before confessing “Don’t fall in love with the bad things. Remind me why I am still alive. I am still alive” in the chorus. It’s a confronting confessional that hears Alison Wonderland opening up about her struggles, but also making sure that her fans know that they aren’t alone if they’re finding themselves in a similar situation.

This song doesn’t have your typical constant chaotic explosion of beats that you’ve become accustomed to over the years, instead she tones it back. Layering the production in a really moody and dark palette, she builds into a chorus drop that steers towards the glitchy-EDM trend. It’s quite reminiscent of Flume’s recent material in the sense that it’s not exactly what you expected, and is a bit more DIY charged.
