Keeping the bangers rolling in, Cheat Codes have teamed up with Australia’s rising DIY pop star CXLOE. ‘Between Our Hearts’ is taken from part 1 of their debut album which aims to introduce you to the three diverse personalities and stories behind this dynamic trio. They’ve produced huge remixes that have topped the charts and been added to heavy rotation playlists in nightclubs globally, as well released some of their own bangers like the Demi Lovato collaboration ‘No Promises’ and the Dante Klein banger ‘Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On)’. And now this song could potentially join them with it’s playful concept.
‘Between Our Hearts’ is a bold pop-EDM crossover that embraces wanting to keep a relationship close to your chest, and not wanting to share with anyone the intimate details. It’s the special kind of love that feels so genuine that you’re scared of losing it’s authenticity when you share with other people. “Don’t you go and tell no one when I show you how I feel about you. Can you keep it between our hearts?” they sing during the chorus. But lyrically it can be interpreted in different ways which is also why it feels quite playful as you can choose how you feel about it when listening.
CXLOE took to Twitter to reveal her excitement about this collaboration by tweeting how she always dreamt about starting a song with a chorus, and here she is, making her own dreams come true. Beginning with a mellowed-out version of the chorus, the song builds with dreamy pop production into the rhythmic EDM-pop explosion that the chorus perfectly embodies.
Intertwining her vocals with Trevor Dahl from Cheat Codes, they fluidly give you both perspectives of the relationship. It’s quite a cheeky and playful song, and they both live up to that sentiment with their delivery.
