We may be in lockdown, but BLACKPINK are in your area with a brand new song to inspire your fevered sugary dreams. ‘Ice Cream’ is a playful pop track that hears them comparing themselves to the sweetness of ice cream.
“Look so good, yeah, look so sweet. Looking good, enough to eat. Coldest with the kiss, so he call me ice cream. Catch me in the fridge, right where the ice be” they sing during the playful chorus. It’s a cheeky track that shouldn’t be taken too seriously. There’s no real substance to the lyrics, and that’s okay as it is just intended to be a fun pop song, and have you smiling and dancing during a time where you may not feel like doing that.
This song also hears them teaming up with Selena Gomez, which in itself is a very exciting concept. But the delivery on the collaboration is a little weak as their voices intertwine, and you will find yourself questioning when Selena is even singing as the moments don’t totally standout. You immediately lose Selena within the song which is disappointing as it’s such a draw card for listeners in general.
The production is super playful and is reminiscent of Cher Lloyd’s debut album ‘Stciks & Stones’ along with some of Fifth Harmony’s later material. It’s a easy pop listen that will fit well into radio, but it unfortunately doesn’t have the same immediate energy or memorability as ‘Kill This Love’ or ‘DDU-DU-DDU-DU’.
