SINGLE REVIEW: GVY – Fallout

GVY is a Brisbane based singer, songwriter and producer who is finally ready to introduce himself to the world.

From the humble beginnings of recording in his living room, he’s built together a DIY sonic that hears him unravelling an emotional heart that intertwines with an innovative and growing sound. Comfortably sitting in the indie-pop realm, this project will see him giving you some slick aesthetics and continually pushing those sonical boundaries with experimental undertones.

His debut single ‘Fallout’ is a sophisticated first taste of what is to come. The brooding dark-pop moment cites Chet Faker, Jordan Rakei and The Internet as influences, and there is even a little taste of Frank Ocean thrown into the mix.

Lyrically it is a coming of age track that hears him trying to express vulnerability in a pure and honest way. Questioning the uncertainty of love, heartbreak, pain and the evolution of life in general, he dives in deep and embraces the unknown.

It’s not traditionally pop inclined in the straight up “bop” sense and instead takes an adult contemporary pop route. It’s a slow burner that eventually builds momentum with the growing production. But it works incredibly well for GVY as it lays down a mature foundation that will allow him to experiment with each release and unravel different sides to his artistry.
