SINGLE REVIEW: Jonas Brothers – X / 5 More Minutes

No one saw it coming but the Jonas Brothers made 2019 their year with a huge comeback that saw them have their first ever global number one single with the anthemic ‘Sucker’.

With their well received fifth studio album ‘Happiness Begins’ following, the three piece hit the road for a mostly sold out North American, Latin American and European tour. Capturing that experience through the ‘Happiness Continues’ concert documentary, they’ve tried to keep the momentum building.

Teasing two new songs through the documentary, the fans started petitioning for the band to release them, and they’ve listened.

‘X’ is the radio intended song out of the two and hears them diving into a latin influenced pop-dance sonic. There’s a lot of strong premise surrounding this track, but it just lacks that extra wow factor.

The songs embodies a lot of energy and even adds in a collaboration with unknown Colombian singer KAROL G for good measure, who is apparently not that unknown after a quick little google search.

On the other end of the spectrum, ’5 More Minutes’ is a doo-woop styled track that feels like the perfect slow dance song at a prom. But that is all it’s really got going for it as it peaks really early and doesn’t sonically shift throughout the whole 2 and half minute duration.

It feels quite cookie cutter with lyrics like “give me five more minutes. Baby, I’m not finished loving you” while the whole concept could be a little more honest and sexually charged. After all, they aren’t teenagers anymore.

‘X’ and ‘5 More Minutes’ are intended to be for the fans, and sadly they will probably stay that way because they are ultimately quite forgetful.
