SINGLE REVIEW: Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber – Stuck With U

Inspired by the global lockdown due to Covid-19, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber have joined forces to raise money for First Responders Children’s Foundation with all proceeds from their collaborative single being donated.

‘Stuck With U’ is a slow dance prom song that reflects on the realities of being stuck with someone during isolation. No matter how things are going in your relationship you are forced to be with that one person and you have to make it work for the time being.

“So lock the door and throw out the key. Can’t fight this no more, it’s just you and me. And there’s nothin’ I, nothin’ I, I can do. I’m stuck with you, stuck with you, stuck with you” they sing during the swooping chorus.

This is a track that you could vividly imagine what it sounded like before you even heard it. There wasn’t much room for surprise or collaborative experimentation. Instead they gave you exactly what you expected which was just a sweet ballad.

By now I would expect more from these two superstars, that when they collaborate it would be something exciting, experimental and impactful. While they may have the heart and impact behind it, the excitement and experimental layers are missing.

The sweeping doo-woop melody sounds like it could’ve easily come off one of Ariana’s last two albums. There isn’t much substance to the sonical layers and that’s what is disappointing. It feels quickly made and also feels like a quick cash grab. Luckily all the proceeds are going towards a good cause.
