SINGLE REVIEW: Charli XCX – Forever

With the current uncertainty of the world in amidst of the Coronavirus pandemic, Charli XCX has decided to be proactive during this time and write, record and release an album while in isolation.

‘How I’m Feeling Now’ will be released on May 15 and is a bold and impressive project which will hear her giving music directly to her fans during a time where music can truly make a positive impact in someone’s life.

The lead single for the project is the glitchy pop ballad, ‘Forever’. Dedicated to her boyfriend, the track plays as an ode to her love for him and details the complexity of long distance relationships. It hears her promising to always love him, even if they break up and move on with their lives. It’s an honest and vulnerable track that is really romantic and beautiful at it’s core.

“I will always love you, I’ll love you forever, even when we’re not together” she proclaims before further adding “Said, I’ll love you forever. I know in the future we won’t see each other. Cold just like December. But I will always love you. I’ll love you forever”.

Following in the footsteps of ‘Track 10’, this song gets a pop polish that highlights it’s DIY attributes, while still offering a sweet pop hook. It’s classic experimental Charli and hears her continuing to not be afraid with owning that side of her artistry.

It isn’t a radio single and that’s okay. It’s a track for her fans that will be embraced in her live shows once she’s back on a stage and cohesively sits in her growing body of work.
