It’s a rare moment when a debut single from an emerging artist hits you in a way that makes you stop in you tracks and leaves you completely mesmerised, but when it does, it’s rather exhilarating.
AYA YVES is the new project by indie-folk/pop artist Vendulka that hears her stepping into a brand new light full of maturity and a eagerness to experiment with sounds.
Her debut single ‘(in)Sanity’ is a bold exploration of her sound that sonically sits somewhere between CXLOE and Banks while incorporating a soulful vocal take.
The track explores the complexity of meeting someone that isn’t emotionally available, and deep down knowing that it probably won’t work out, but still doing it anyway. While they get deeper and deeper in amongst their feelings, the situation turns even more complicated and she start to start question why they are putting themselves through this.
“Have we lost our minds? I don’t mind. Let’s leave all sanity behind” she sings during the brooding and captivating hook.
The dark and moody production starts with piano and simple strings, while her echoing vocals atmospherically grace over the top. Produced by Xavier Dunn, they add in a gospel tinged beat during the hook which sonically uplifts the song and provides a nice light and shade within the darkness the song embodies.
Bringing all of these unique elements together, AYA YVES delivers an incredibly memorable debut that kickstarts her career and will leave you eagerly awaiting the next instalment from the newcomer.
