Individually Kygo, Zara Larsson and Tyga have some massive hits between themselves, so in theory a collaboration should’ve been unstoppably brilliant, but the final product came out a little vanilla.
‘Like It Is’ serves as the lead single for Kygo’s forthcoming third studio album ‘Golden Hour’, and as the first single from a project you want it to be endearing, bold and capture the directional approach. But the only thing this song seems to capture is a repetitive sound that every single EDM-pop producer has been delivering.
Nothing about this song feels original. It sits in the same lane as every other EDM-pop cross over and sonically just sounds like a Larsson solo single with a mediocre Tyga feature rap.
Even the chorus lacks originality with Larsson just repeating the line “I’m just telling it like it is. You got me, you got me”, NINE times. Yes, thats right, n i n e times. There was no other substance even tried to be layered with the delivery.
The fact of the matter is that ‘Like It Is’ should’ve been a bigger song. It should’ve been the song of isolation. It should’ve been an anthem waiting to be played on the dance floor as soon as clubs re-opened. But instead it just fades into the background.
