SINGLE REVIEW: Kita Alexander – Against The Water

With only two EP’s out in the world, Kita Alexander has crated an impressive discography of anthemic indie-pop tracks that raked in over 82 million streams on Spotify alone.

After taking a two year break from releasing music, the Lennox Head singer-songwriter returned last year with the euphoric ‘Between You & I’, which was packed with groovy guitar riffs and pulsating drums reminiscent of HAIM and Maggie Rogers.

Ahead of a string of live dates for The Drop Festival, she’s just dropped her most personal release yet. ‘Against The Water’ addresses the tragic surfing accident that saw her nearly lose her then-boyfriend and now husband Owen Wright.

The emotional fuelled lyrics not only recount that horrible accident but also dives into the constant love and support that she has for him. It captures that intense love that acts at the foundation of their relationship and hears her proclaiming that she will always be in his corner, no matter what.

“Baby you can do what you like, you can do whatever you wanna. So why remember me when you’re trying to breathe under the water” she emotionally sings during the chorus.

Layering the raw emotions of the song with an anthemic production full of dreamy synths and drums, she continues that indie-pop sound that she’s honed throughout her musical career.

Its a very strong track that takes her away from the carefree direction she’s implemented with her previous releases and gives fans something a little more tender and personal.
