SINGLE REVIEW: Tove Lo – Bikini Porn

Ahead of kicking off her Sunshine Kitty Tour on Feb 6, Tove Lo has decided to start the year by exclusively giving her fans two new tracks.

The double sided single release hears the Swedish singer-songwriter teaming up with Billie Eilish’s brother FINNEAS for two summer themed tracks that showcase the two polar opposite emotions that can embody someone’s mind over summer.

Lead single ‘Bikini Porn’ is a playful dance-pop track that sonically continues the sound and evolution that her fourth studio album ‘Sunshine Kitty’ explored.

“All I do is drink champagne all day, all day, all day. And I dance around my room naked, oh yeah, naked. Skinny dipping in the pool with me, with me, with me. Take a day out from your life all day, one day, today” she sings during the euphoric hook.

The sexually charged atmosphere and carefree energy that this song creates is a lot of fun and is in typical Tove Lo spirit. The production continues to grow with new synths, and “uh-huh’s” being added to the layers to keep thickening the texture. But then the song abruptly finishes and leaves the listeners a little confused because at only 2 min and 43 seconds long there was still at least another chorus to be added.

On the other end of the spectrum, ‘Passion And Pain Taste The Same When I’m Weak’ is the coming down pop ballad that could soundtrack some people’s summers in a heartfelt way. Soaked in dreamy melodies, this song is quite simple at it’s seams and allows the emotion to drive it.

With light synths hovering over the keys, she doesn’t oversaturate the production and makes this double sided single release a oddly perfect polar opposite bundle.

These aren’t commercially accessible songs that you will hear on radio anytime soon, but instead they are directly for the fans quite possibly could become favourites in her new live show.
