2019 has been a massive year for Australian music. With records being broken by the likes of Tones And I and Jessica Mauboy to multiple number one albums from Australian favourites like Hilltop Hoods, Dean Lewis, Conrad Sewell, Kylie Minogue and Paul Kelly, there has been a huge spotlight on the raw talent that can be found in our own backyard.
The Aria Awards is Australia’s music night of nights and this year they were celebrating in huge style as they proudly recognised all of these accomplishments and looked towards an exciting future that promises the potential for more records to be broken in 2020.
Hosted by Guy Sebastian, the ceremony at The Star Casino in Sydney was a glittery affair that saw everyone dressing up to the nines in their most glamorous and unique outfits. From the neon two piece dreams of What So Not, to the poignantly dapper female suits by BENEE, G-Flip and Carllie Hanson as well as the absolutely stunning and complimenting dresses by The Veronicas, there was a lot to visually take in.
Sweeping her awards, Tones And I won 4 for Best Female Artist, Best Pop Release, Breakthrough Artist and Best Independent Release, which after her record breaking year is no real surprise.
Other winners with multiple wins on the night included Dean Lewis who took home Album Of The Year and Best Male Artist while Guy Sebastian won the fan voted Best Song and Best Video awards powered by YouTube Music.
With performances by nominated acts Tones And I, Morgan Evans, Hilltop Hoods, The Teskey Brothers, Guy Sebastian and the Hall Of Fame Inductees Human Nature, it was Thelma Plum who stole the show with her beautifully stripped back performance of ‘Better In Blak’ which she was joined on stage by Kira Puru and Mojo JuJu for.
Alongside all of the big Australian names, international favourites Halsey, Dua Lipa and Khalid took to the stage for some memorable performances while Why Don’t We, Carly Rae Jepsen, BENEE, Robinson and Carlie Hanson were also in attendance.
