Louis Tomlinson was my favourite member of One Direction because there was just something super relatable and honest about him during the whirlwind craziness that this record breaking boyband created.
But in a post-One Direction world, Tomlinson has been one of the most disappointing in his solo endeavours. His songs have had good intentions and had real heart behind them but they just haven’t sonically stuck. The songs have fell a little flat unlike Harry Styles and Niall Horan’s efforts which have successfully charted and made a social impact. But in saying that, he has also welcomed his first child into the world and had some devastating personal family matters that have impacted his ability to release, promote and tour his releases.
With things in his life beginning to settle down, the singer-songwriter is finally ready to release his debut album and tour the world. His debut album ‘Walls’ will finally be released on January 31 and he will then be heading down under for two exclusive shows in Sydney and Melbourne in April 2020.
To coincide with all of these announcements, Tomlinson has also dropped his new single ‘We Made It’ which is one of the stronger releases in his catalogue to date. It may not be a breakthrough smash hit, but it’s a song that is heartfelt and has a euphoric feeling to it which will undoubtedly become a favourite with fans.
As an ode to his relationship with his fans and his girlfriend, he reflects on the journey he’s been on and celebrates how far he’s come in his personal and professional life. “Cause we made it. Underestimated and always underrated. Now we’re saying goodbye. Waving to the hard times. Yeah, it’s gonna be alright” he sings during the humble hook.
With a production similar to the last two One Direction records, he intelligently gives fans a sound he knows that works and sonically returns to where his journey began as a songwriter.
It’s a catchy track and is by far his strongest solo track yet, but I’m still waiting for that “oh there it is” kind of moment from him.
