SINGLE REVIEW: Selena Gomez – Look At Her Now

Heartbreak can be soul crushing and it can be hard to pick yourself up off the ground after you’ve been knocked down by love. But it can also be empowering as you learn to grow and you find a strength inside you that you may have not known you had. And that’s the emotion that Selena Gomez is embracing in her highly anticipated return to music.

Yesterday the singer-songwriter dropped the highly emotive ballad ‘Lose You To Love Me’ which soared with beautiful harmonies and raw vulnerability. But to showcase the contrast and diversity in empowerment, Gomez has dropped another new song which is all about picking yourself back up and finding the strength to move on.

‘Look At Her Now’ is a bonafide electronic banger that also implements some latin influences in the sassy delivery. Telling the story in third person of how she picked herself up, this track vividly draws the listener in and has you imagining the pain and power she went throughout the break up. “Of course she was sad but now she’s glad she dodged a bullet. Took a few years to soak up the tears but look at her now, watch her go”.

While the lyrics are quite heavy, there is a playful feel to the production that lifts the song and really puts a spotlight on the empowering nature of the lessons she’s learnt. But there is one lyric in particular that still hits hard; “Shiny till it wasn’t. Feels good till it doesn’t”.

‘Look At Her Now’ is a strong strong that immediately commands your attention and will have you dancing your way through the 2:40 minute duration and have you excitingly anticipating her forthcoming third studio album.
