UK indie-pop favourites, Fickle Friends, have been a bit quiet throughout 2019. Other than a little bit of touring they’ve spent most of their year in the studio and working on what the next chapter of Fickle Friends looks, sounds and feels like. And apparently it’s a little euphoric.
‘Amateurs’ is the bands first and only single for 2019 and comes ahead of their intimate run of UK dates to preview the new direction and celebrate how far the band has come.
The groovy new single is definitely one of their most pop heavy releases yet. It’s executed with a very shiny polish and is made to just be a fun track in their live set. But behind the playful production and euphoric execution is a story of heartbreak and reflection about a relationship that just wasn’t meant to be.
Embracing that sentiment during the hook, they sing euphorically with a positive spin with realising that it wasn’t meant to be and it not being the end of the world. “No, it wasn’t meant to be. We don’t know a lot about each other. We’re just amateurs in love”.
