SINGLE REVIEW: BENEE – Find An Island

Fresh from playing at Spotify’s Front Left Live event in Melbourne, BENEE has a new track for your listening pleasure ahead of her sold out headlining Australian tour in November.

‘Find An Island’ is a chilled out and slightly petty song that will have you channeling all your inner frustration and unapologetically letting it all out. Inspired by a pointless fight she had with her guitarist, she didn’t want to throw out words she didn’t mean, so she was trying to find something she could say that would poetically represent that she just needed space. And “find an island” was what she perfectly came up with.

Exploring this concept further she look at using that expression to tell people to go somewhere else when she doesn’t want to be around them. “Find an island far away from me. A shipwreck lost at sea where nobody goes, no search party, nobody knows but me”. It’s a really playful and perfectly petty concept that along with it’s chilled out reggae infused indie-pop riff, will be immediately stuck in your head. It’s a song with a lot of attitude and personality which has almost become BENEE’s brand because all of her releases are so unapologetically unique.
