SINGLE REVIEW: Jessica Mauboy – Jealous

Taking full confidence in her delivery, Jessica Mauboy is ready to show listeners another side of her artistry. ‘Jealous’ is taken from her upcoming fourth studio album ‘Hilda’ (Out October 18) and compared to all of the other songs she’s released so far, this is by bar the most different. Singing the provocative line, “cause you know gonna I’m take you to Nirvana” during the second verse, she describes a raw and fiery passion that highlights a mature growth in her songwriting and production.

Reacquainting herself with her RNB roots, this song embodies the vision and sound that she wishes her debut album ‘Been Waiting’ dived further in. But in contrast it shows a lot of growth from that first offering that has seen her learn so many important life lessons and has seen her find a whole new confidence inside of her.

With the crooning RNB vibe of the first verse setting the mood, the chorus brings in a whole different vibe with a reggae influenced beat and hip moving element. Channeling the likes of Kehlani and Ashanti, she gets sexy and real with listeners. “I’mma make you jealous. I’mma make it worth it. Cause there’s something bout you. I can not help it. But I’m doing what I like”.

To coincide with the release of her comeback single ‘Sunday’, Mauboy hit the road for an exclusive run of intimate showcases where she played a mix of greatest hits and premiered a selection of new tracks that previewed where her sound was heading towards. ‘Jealous’ was one of the songs she previewed and it was one that immediately stood out and became a song I couldn’t wait to hear the studio version of. With the song now out, I can safely say it didn’t disappoint. It’s as fiery, confident and seductive as I wanted it to be and I’m ready for it to be on replay until October 18.
