SINGLE REVIEW: LAUV – Sims

With the announcement of his debut album ‘~how i’m feeling~’ finally being released on 6 March 2020, Lauv is ready to open up to listeners in a different way and show all of the different sides of his artistry and personality. With the album set to be split into six different parts, he will candidly talk about things he hasn’t openly discussed before and show listeners who he really is.

Alongside the existing announcement, he’s dropped his new single ‘Sims’ which has been a fan favourite on his current world tour. The DIY indie-pop track explores meeting the right person at the wrong time. It’s a situation that a lot of people can relate to as the timing of the universe sometimes has different plans to how you wish things would unravel.

“I wish that you and I lived in The Sims. We could build a house and plant some flowers and have kids. But we’re both at some trashy Halloween party downtown. And I’ll probably never see you again” he admits in the opening lines of the track. With just a simple piano and synth beat cruising through the verse, he then has a key change for the chorus that then transitions into the groovy guitar led post chorus.

It’s a song that has a lot of growth throughout the production during it’s short 2:35 minute duration and constantly has the listener intrigued and captivated. The chorus hears him simply proclaiming that he wishes they met on another night and it’s the simplicity and blunt honesty that will connect the most with listeners. “I wish we would’ve met on another night, baby. Maybe then I wouldn’t have let you leave me”.
