SINGLE REVIEW: Normani – Motivation

Over the past year, Normani has become the collaboration queen. While she was preparing the release of her highly anticipated debut solo single, she strategically kept up appearances and kept the hype building as she featured on tracks with artists like Khalid, Sam Smith, 6lack and Calvin Harris. Making sure she was introducing herself to the world in the most authentic way possible, Normani took her time in making sure she was creating the best fusion of RNB-pop that represented who she was as an artist. And ‘Motivation’ does exactly that.

Soaked in nostalgia, this is the type of RNB-pop song you would’ve expected to hear in the mid 2000’s from the likes of Kelly Rowland, Ashanti, Keri Hilson, Cassie and Ciara. And that’s why it works so well because no one is making music like this at the moment. Everyone is too concerned about beat drops and mainstream connectivity, where as she’s just gone in and made a killer song and its worked. She delivers it with such confidence and conviction that the whole world has already started taking about it and it’s on heavy rotation globally.

The playful and feel good track sees her owning who she is as an female and as an artist and you can’t help but start grooving along to the slick production that accompanies the infectious melody. “I’ma break you off, let me be your motivation to stay and give it tonight. And, baby, turn around, let me give you innovation. Hey, cause I do it so right”.

This is a career defining debut that will have people talking for a very long time about just how impressive and well calculated this song and it’s accompanying nostalgic theme video was.  We officially stan!
