SINGLE REVIEW: Sophia Messa- What Am I Gonna Do With You

Sophia Messa’s smart and sophisticated pop is what your playlists need and with her sultry and slick vocals, she will have you falling in love from the very first listen.

Following the release of the RNB injected ‘Moneydontfixlonely’ and the dancehall influenced ‘Offyourface’, she leads the way with another strong pop song that shows a different side to her growing artistry. ‘What Am I Gonna Do With You’ commands your attention upon the first listen and gives you a mix of sass and coming of age commentary. Exploring the raw and tingly way someone can make you feel after you first meet them, she explains that first inkling of hope she was subjected to after meeting them that capture the spark. “You made me feel like the one, when I didn’t feel like someone”.

However during the chorus she shows signs of being reserved when it comes to falling in love as she questions what she’s gonna do with this unfolding situation that she wasn’t completely prepared for. “You look at me some type of way, so tell me what I’m supposed to say now. Don’t really wanna get played. Ugh I hate that you’re so beautiful. What am I, what am I, what am I gonna do with you, when you look like that”.

It’s all about embracing that raw vulnerability within taking a risk that may or may not work out and being okay with the outcome either way. Love is a dangerous game, but it’s a beautiful one too and she explores that concept in a playful and sassy way.

What I have loved about each release from Messa so far, is that she’s unapologetically shown us her personality effortlessly through these very engaging and different songs. This song is full of personality as the dance-pop beat unveils this very playful side to her which is pondering falling in love but also sees her having fun and being herself at the same time. And let’s not even get started on how pure fire this production is. It’s a club banger and radio ready song that needs to be embraced.

‘What Am I Gonna Do With You’ well and truly welcomes her to the pop game. If you haven’t noticed her yet, now is the time.
