SINGLE REVIEW: Shura – Religion (U Can Lay Your Hands On Me)

It’s been a little while in between releases for Shura, but the British singer-songwriter is finally ready to release her sophomore record into the world. ‘Forevher’ will be available on August 16 and hears her continuing to perfect her dreamy indie-pop soundscape. Her new single ‘Religion (U Can Lay Your Hands On Me’ is a disco infused tropical pop moment that manages to find a groovy but sophisticated middle. Complimenting the cinematic and relaxed undertones of lead single ‘BKLYNLDN’, she adds a funkier feel as she explores head over heels love. “Oh Girl, don’t stop, please. You can lay your hands on me”. There’s an empowering motion behind this song as she opens up about her sexuality and sings about her own experiences with falling in love. She transforms this romantic song into a track full of groove, hope and explores how love can be like religion. It has a real nostalgic feel which is perfectly leading pop music into a whole new life. This is a really cool sound for her and will compliment the moodier aspects of her previous material well.
