SINGLE REVIEW: 5 Seconds Of Summer – Easier

“Is it easier to stay? Is it easier to go? I don’t wanna know, oh. But I know that I’m never, ever gonna change. And you know that you’re always gonna stay the same”. Those are the honest and relatable thoughts of someone stuck in a toxic relationship. If you’ve been there, then you know just how hard it is to walk away but you will also know how long you searched for the inner strength to go through with it. Toxic relationships are super hard to walk away from but that’s what makes them so toxic. 5 Seconds Of Summer explore these raw emotions on a synth layered track full of groovy harmonies and hard hitting lyrics. It hears them continuing the funky sound their third studio album ‘Youngblood’ introduced and even sees them getting a little darker. The pulsating synth that drives the verses is so hard hitting and moody that it is then perfectly complimented by Luke Hemming’s falsetto in the hook. Lyrically they perfectly capture all of the different sides of this subject as well as the conflicting thoughts that your mind bounces between whilst you’re stuck in the moment. “I love you so much that I hate you. Right now, it’s so hard to blame you cause you’re so damn beautiful”. It’s such a great representation of the confusing state of this topic and is a perfect representation of the artists that 5SOS are becoming. It’s another strong track which will continue to win them over a whole new fanbase.
