SINGLE REVIEW: PNAU – Solid Gold

PNAU first hinted at the release of new music during their New Years Festival run of shows where they premiered a track that was “coming soon”. Five months down the track and the Australian production duo have finally lived up to their promise and dropped that said song in it’s polished electronic form. ‘Solid Gold’ is a glistening synth-pop meets disco track that safely plays in that mid-tempo electronic realm that the likes of Triple J and NOVA are currently loving. The chorus slightly amps it up with a festival ready singalong hook that I feel like could’ve been bigger. It could’ve been more anthemic. After all, look at ‘Chameleon’ and ‘Go Bang’, those songs are anthems for life because of their ridiculously perfect hooks that are so over the top and great. Where as this song peaks early and safely stays there. There’s no attempt in growing or evolving the production and instead they just deliver what they know will be good for radio right now. Which isn’t a bad thing, but by now I do expect bigger things from them. It is a grower so maybe i just need to hit replay a couple of times reluctantly to fall in love with it.
