SINGLE REVIEW: K.FLAY – This Baby Don’t Cry

Okay, It’s official. K.FLAY’s highly anticipated third studio album ‘Solutions’ will be unleashed into the world in all its honest and empowering glory on July 12. Following in the footsteps of her critically acclaimed and two time Grammy nominated album ‘Every Where Is Some Where’, she finds strength within her vulnerability and mixes it up with some bad ass hooks. To coincide with the exciting announcement, the Californian singer-songwriter has dropped a new single which is driven by a low-key pulsating beat. Co-penned by Dan Reynolds, ‘This Baby Don’t Cry’ reflects on the importance of standing up for what you believe in and not allowing your insecurities to get the best of you. The line; “It’s never easy to be different inside. But when you don’t give a fuck, it’s just like riding a bike” immediately stands out with it’s vivid imagery and heartfelt meaning that stems from the riding a bike metaphor. During the hook she confesses “I send my love to all the haters. Yeah I just wanna let ’em know, this baby don’t cry” in a light hearted way to re-claim her own confidence. It’s a catchy and anthemic tinged song that will instantly become a favourite in her energetic live show. It perfectly holds onto that emotional tier her music has always had within it’s foundations and reaches higher for that big arena ready genre-fluid sound that she’s been creating. There’s no one else out there making music like K.FLAY at the moment and that’s a very exciting thing.
