SINGLE REVIEW: Zara Larsson – WOW

Moving away from the pure pop stylings her first two records introduced, Zara Larsson is heading towards a more rhythmic and moody production for her third studio album. Teaming up with Marshmello for the hype track ‘WOW’, she gets listeners vibing along to the dark electronic cut. Describing the sort of love she feels from someone who doesn’t judge her and takes her for who she is, she get’s a little sentimental and gushy. “Baby, I’m not even in a gown. I’m just in a t-shirt on the couch. The way you want me makes me want you now. The only thing you have to say is, Wow”. It has a very experimental production that has you feeling a little underwhelmed during the basic verses before interpolating an unexpected drop in the post chorus which will get stuck in your head immediately. It’s a bunch of rambling nonsense which is a lot of fun and memorable. It has a playful element that her last single was missing. But this moody production and styling is where she does want to head toward and it suits her. So just take this hype track for what it is.
