SINGLE REVIEW: Martin Garrix feat. Macklemore & Patrick Stump – Summer Days

I’m not going to lie, this is not a collaboration I ever expected to happen. I mean Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy teaming up with the Thrift Shop master Macklemore and EDM’s golden boy Martin Garrix? But I’m definitely here for it. Reminiscing about summer love they re-tell those fun, simple and careless moments which become unforgettable in your mind. “I got this feeling on a summer day. Knew it when I saw her face. I just thought that she could be the one”. It’s a carefree concept that has a lot of potential to become that summer hit that they all hope it will become. However there is a lot going on, and I’m still not sure whether that is a good thing or not. With a relaxed guitar riff strumming through the chorus and early verses with Stumps easily recognisable vocals I had to question if this was going to become a Fall Out Boy track with the way it was going. But then they dropped a tropical house beat that interpolates Martin Garrixs’ influences to throw you off guard. And then Macklemore jumps on the track with heavy synths layered under his verse to give you a whole new sound. It’s very rhythmic and will have you stomping your foot along and prepared to sing along. But when you combine it all together, it’s just a lot. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m just saying I’m still unsure.
